Every March Is the Same Size

By oNarePublished: 4 min read

The troop calculator ships with 53 ready-made setups across eight activities. Line them all up and the first thing that shows is what does not change.

Every count below is a sum over those 53 templates.

The size is fixed

Templates53
Between 350,000 and 353,500 troops47
Spread across those 473,500 troops, or 1%

Forty-seven of the fifty-three are the same march to within one percent. That is not a coincidence in the data — it is the army size limit. The templates are all filling the same box.

The six that are not:

TemplateTroopsWhy
EW Flank — Odd / Even Cavalry231,002A flank, not a core march
EW Flank — Odd / Even Infantry235,000Same
SA — Mixed Front140,500Four equal fronts, no ranged
SA — Empty900Filler only

What changes is the ratio

Same box, eight different ways of filling it:

ActivityFront lineAngelsRanged
Anubis130,000—220,000
Box140,000—210,000
Undead100,000—248,000
Fiend12,000—338,000
Elite War, core140,00090,000120,000
SOS140,00095,000115,000
Lodestone—95,000255,000

Read down the ranged column and it runs from 115,000 to 338,000 — a 2.9x swing on the same total. Fiend puts 96% of the march in ranged troops and keeps 12,000 in front; its fourth template drops the front line too and reaches 99%. Lodestone has no front line at all and leads with angels.

So the question a template answers is not how many do I send. It is what do I send them as.

Angels are in three activities, not eight

Angels appear in real numbers only in Elite War (90,000), SOS (95,000) and Lodestone (95,000). In the other five activities the angel field holds 100 or 500 — the same token amounts the templates use everywhere as filler, to keep a slot occupied without committing troops to it.

If you have been keeping a large angel stack in rotation for Anubis or Box, the templates do not.

Even is T12, odd is T13 — all 53

Across all 53 templates, without one exception:

FieldTier
Every even troop type12
Every odd troop type13

"Even" and "odd" in the tool are not a formation style, they are the tier pair. A template named Odd Cav / Archers is a T13 march; the Even version of the same activity is the T12 one. If your barracks only reach T12, the even templates are the ones that apply to you, and every activity has one.

The one template that mixes them does it on purpose: SA - Mixed Front puts 35,000 in each of the four front types, T12 and T13 together. That is what its name says it is.

What this does not tell you

These are starting points someone put in the tool, not solved optimums. They do not account for your research, your artifacts, your beast, or what the other side brought. And the size being fixed is only true while your army limit is where these were written for — if yours is smaller, every row scales down and the ratios are the part worth keeping.

Load any of them in the troop calculator, and if the march time matters as much as the composition, the speed tables are here.
